The Benefits of Eating Fish
There are many rumors swirling around about what foods are good to eat and the benefits they can provide. Well to set the record straight, eating fish can benefit your eyes in the long run. If you eat fish at least twice a week, it can ward off macular degeneration (deterioration of the retina). Fish is high in omega-3 fatty acids which is good for your eyes. Macular degeneration is the primary reason that people over 60 suffer from vision loss.
A study was done to analyze the benefits of eating a high omega-3 diet, people with the most omega-3’s in their diet had a lower chance of getting macular degeneration. This can primarily be caused by fish.
The frequency at which fish or omega-3’s were consumed also influenced the effects it had on vision. Eating fish at least twice a week as compared to less than once a month lead to a drop in the risk of getting macular degeneration.
Fish that have the most amount of omega-3 are ones that are oily, cold water fish.
